DESCRIPTION

Part 5 of APTA CT Pediatric SIG's Neuromuscular Series; in a panel format, therapists in a variety of practice settings (specialty clinic, hospital-based outpatient, school-based) join for a case-based discussion of the care of individuals in non-ambulatory phases of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

OBJECTIVES

Attendees will demonstrate basic understanding of progression of functional decline across late ambulatory and non-ambulatory DMD and three key aspects of overall PT care.

Attendees will be able to describe at least two elements of the PT role in each practice setting – specialty clinic, outpatient care, equipment program, and school-based.

Attendees will be able to describe at least two areas for collaboration between therapists across settings in regard to care of a patient/student in non-ambulatory phase of DMD.

Attendees will be able to name four specialists typically key in providing care for patients/students with DMD.

Will recognize 2018 Lancet guidelines as describing multidisciplinary care in DMD.
