President's Message

12.10.2015

Time flies when you’re having fun, and after a very busy fall it is time for us as an association to reflect on where we are and where we’ve been throughout the year.  The 2015 fall conference and annual meeting were both a success with a wide variety of topics and speakers including a keynote lecture on the Movement System from Cynthia Zadai.  She highlighted the work of the APTA’s movement system work group and task force and how we have progressed as a profession through the past 30 years.  The conference is an inexpensive way to get continuing education hours, but it is also a way to connect with colleagues, vote on bylaw changes, and become better informed about the happenings of the APTA and CTAPTA.  Attendance numbers for the conference have stayed steady, but we need to grow the association and the profession.  We have had a great legislative year yet again with the addition of physical therapy to the telehealth bill in Connecticut and PT Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.  We will look to continue this in 2016 with the 10th anniversary of direct access to physical therapy in Connecticut and our own Physical Therapy Day in Hartford!  Look for more information to come on the website, facebook, and twitter because we’re going to need your help.

We all have a lot to be thankful for here at the CTAPTA.  We have just completed our final meeting of 2015 and the transition of board members and leadership for 2016 has begun.  We are looking for more members to step up and take on leadership roles and get involved.  If you think you have an interest in being on our legislative/public policy committee or our advisors to the student SIG please contact CTAPTA.  We are looking forward to continuing our momentum from 2015 into the New Year with better communication, more involvement, and more members, with your help.  I hope that everyone had a happy thanksgiving and everyone here at CTAPTAwishes you a happy and healthy holiday season.
