Functional Approach to Pain: Pediatric Physical Therapy Management of Pediatric Chronic Pain

This will be a virtual event focused on exposing therapists to pediatric chronic pain management including review of chronic pain syndromes and functional neurological disorder. Attendees will learn about the functional approach to pain as well as the benefit of a multi-disciplinary approach for patient management. This session will focus on exposing learners to examination and intervention strategies including a brief review of pain neuroscience education and how it can be adapted to pediatrics.

1. Differentiate between amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome and complex regional pain syndrome.
2. Differentiate between chronic pain syndromes and functional neurological diagnoses.
3. Appreciate the multi-disciplinary approach for pain management.
4. Understand physical therapy examination and intervention techniques for patients with chronic pain.
5. Briefly review pain neuroscience education strategies and how they can be adapted in pediatrics.
