Description of lecture
This lecture will dive into the challenges faced with amputation in pediatric patients with cancer. We will cover common conditions, the role of the prosthetist within the healthcare team, as well as treatment protocols for this patient population. We will also discuss ways that therapy can get involved in order to promote positive functional outcomes with prosthetic devices.
Objectives:
1. To describe the most common pediatric oncologic conditions that lead to referral to orthotist/prosthetist.
2. To describe the role of orthotist/prosthetist in the management of patients with pediatric oncologic conditions.
3. To describe the most common orthotics/prosthetics prescribed for the common pediatric oncologic conditions
4. To understand the role of physical therapists in monitoring appropriate device use including any potential modifications.
5. To review special considerations for education for patients/caregivers for appropriate use.
