Description:
Using the article by Smith et al as a backdrop, Drs. Mellett and Campbell will present an overview of transitioning survivors of moderate to severe COVID-19 to home and community settings. Emphasis will be placed on the post-acute patient population at Boston Hope Field Hospital, post-acute outcome measures, and an overview of the APTA PACER Project (Post-Acute Covid Exercise & Rehabilitation) and other resources to prepare clinicians for a potential post-acute surge.

About the presenters:

Angela Abeyta Campbell, PT, DPT, CCS

 

 

Dr. Campbell is the current President of the Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Section of the APTA and a Professor of Physical Therapy at Springfield College. She received her DPT from Creighton University in 1996, became an ABPTS Board-Certified Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Clinical Specialist (CCS) in 2001, and recredentialed in 2011. She has been a part of the past two clinical teams leading the revalidation and determination of specialist cardiovascular & pulmonary (CVP) practice (ABPTS Description of Specialty Practice). She has clinical experience as a program director of outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation, as a clinician on heart & lung transplant teams, as well as decades of experience in critical care. Dr. Campbell has served the CVP Section and the profession in many ways, such as Specialty Council, ABPTRFE Residency Credentialing Site Team, Advocacy Chair, and ABPTS CVP specialty examination item writer. 

Lauren Mellett, PT, DPT, Board Certified Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Specialist

Lauren received a BS in Health Science in 1998 and MS in Physical Therapy in 2000 from Boston University and a DPT from Northeastern University in 2012. She has been a Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist since 2005. Lauren currently works full-time at Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center in Foxboro, MA since 2009. She is the co-creator of the BWH Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and also works individually with patients with a variety of cardiac and pulmonary conditions. Prior to 2009, she worked at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for nine years in their outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and in the inpatient cardiac units and ICU, and was the co-creator and coordinator of their outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Lauren served as Treasurer of the APTA's Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section from 2014-2020.  She has been Adjunct Faculty at Northeastern University since 2003. She is also a member of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
